If you’ve been considering putting security cameras in your home or business, you may be wondering how to ensure you install quality equipment. After all, while a security system is primarily an investment in safety, it is also a financial investment. It’s only natural to want confirmation that the system you invest in will function well, last a long time, and actually add the extra peace of mind and protection you are looking for. That’s where the NDAA comes in.
What is the National Defense Authorization Act?
The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) regulates what devices are permissible for use by the Department of Defense, nuclear weapons programs, and any government departments related to defense. This act is updated yearly by the Armed Service Committees of both the House and Senate. Each year, these committees create authorizations for the budget, including determinations of what equipment is deemed safe enough to be purchased for government defense.
When it comes to security cameras, Section 889 of the 2019 Act sets out regulations for which cameras can be used in government facilities. To prevent the use of cameras that could be potentially regulated by bad actors, this section bans cameras manufactured by specific companies in China:
- Huawei Technologies Company
- ZTE Corporation
- Hangzhou Hikvision Digital Technology Company
- Dahua Technology Company
- Hytera Communications Corporation
The act does not prohibit all security cameras manufactured in China–only from these companies. One step further, not only are cameras manufactured by these companies prohibited, but the chip in any camera cannot be from these manufacturers either. This ensures that no one with bad intentions can monitor the cameras.
NDAA-compliant cameras are required in a myriad of government facilities:
- Federal, State, and Local Agencies
- Military and Law Enforcement
- Fire Departments
- Hospitals
- Schools
- Jails/Prisons
- Public Utilities
- Nuclear Reactors
Why Should I opt for NDAA-Compliant Cameras?
Although the NDAA only regulates government facilities, its guidelines can be very helpful for anyone looking to lock in a strong security system. Using NDAA-certified cameras creates an extra level of security that prevents any malefactors from accessing your cameras, thus also guarding your network.
Liquid Video Technologies only installs NDAA-compliant cameras for our clients, whether the project is domestic or business-related. Not only does this ensure the cameras are safe from any spying eyes, but also that they will be of high quality. Companies producing NDAA-compliant cameras are often reputable manufacturers whose products are less likely to malfunction and will often last longer. All in all, our clients deserve the highest level of security; so it only makes sense for our equipment to be certified by the US government itself.
If you are really interested in making the security system investment, make sure you implement a system you know you can trust. Liquid Video Technologies will implement NDAA-compliant cameras, but these aren’t the only steps we take to go above and beyond for our clients. We also run fiber to all devices and isolate them to their own Virtual LAN to provide faster communication between them. You can rely on us to make sure you are as safe as you can be, all at a price that really makes the investment worthwhile.
